Devon Valdes
Creative Writer and Author
Hi friends! Thank you for visiting my page! I wanted to compile a quick summary of who I am and how I came to be a writer. I was born and raised in a small rural town just outside of Savannah, GA. It was a wonderful place to grow up and spend the first eighteen years of my life. A lot of my childhood experiences has influenced my writing, and my intent is to capture the beauty, joy, and sorrow of my youth and adolescence.
After high school, I studied at Valdosta State University where I declared English Literature as my undergrad major. In the classroom, I relished learning about every aspect of the program. From classes on creative writing to Southern Gothic American Literature (my personal fave), each course offered something new and interesting to write about. Before I graduated, I spent a summer abroad in Paris where I studied expatriate writers. Walking through the city and frequenting the spaces that Hemingway and Fitzgerald once occupied, impacted me in such a way that I felt very in tune with my writing and creative side. The nuances of the city resonated with me, and to this day I carry a piece of Paris with me. Upon graduating VSU, I moved yet again, this time to the other side of the state. I’ve built a non-writing career and family here during these past fourteen years, and during that time I’ve felt the need to get back to my passion– writing.
I’ve recently graduated from Arizona State University with my MA in English, and I must admit that it was satisfying and rewarding, returning to the classroom, getting back to my roots where my passion for writing was first nurtured and developed. In the meantime, when I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy cooking, traveling, and catching up with family and friends over a Venti Starbucks latte.
I hope you enjoy my writing and that it moves or inspires you to pursue passions of your own. Until next time…
